Foundation Stage Weekly Newsletter

Puffins and Penguins Weekly Newsletter 15th March 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

Something very funny happened this week. A Gingerbread Man ran through the classroom being chased by a horse and a cow! The children were very excited by this and it prompted some wonderful drama and retelling of the story. We will be making our own gingerbread men over the coming weeks.

The children have immersed themselves into the world of traditional stories. They have been busy writing, drawing, reading and retelling their favourite sequences. They are so proud of their work and would love to share it with you. On Thursday 28th March, at 2.40pm, we would like to invite you into school. We will display the children’s work in the woodland area (weather permitting).

On Thursday 21st March, we are visiting Pennywell farm. The children need to be in school at 8.50am, wear full school uniform, bring only a coat and packed lunch (unless you have ordered lunch from school).

The coach will pick us up at 9.15am and we will be back in time for the end of school, 3.15pm. During the day, the children will take part in various activities including meeting the animals, bottle feeding lambs and a tractor ride. The trip will bring many new experiences and increase their knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live. It will also support their personal, social and emotional development and create lasting memories.

Over the next couple of weeks, the children will be busy preparing for Mother’s Day. We are holding an assembly on Monday 1st April at 2.30pm and all foundation stage Mums are invited. Please could you send in a photograph of yourself (Mummy) with your child or e-mail a picture to admin@preston.torbay.sch.uk by Wednesday 27th March.

Home learning

  • Look for 3D shapes around the home and outside; sphere, cube, cuboid, pyramid and cone.
  • Research guinea pigs and write down an interesting piece of information to share with the class next week.
  • Bring in a favourite story from home to share with the rest of the class. Please make sure the book is named.

To support our learning on animal care we have two guinea pigs visiting us for a couple of weeks from 18th – 29th March. The children will have the responsibility of feeding and caring for Patch and Nibbles. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Dates to remember:

21st March – Trip to Pennywell

28th March – Traditional Stories outcome in the Woods 2.40pm

1at April – Mother’s Day Assembly 2.30pm

School finishes for Easter on Friday 5th April and reopens on Tuesday 23rd April
