Autism Awareness Month

April is National Autism Awareness Month

You are invited to take part in our Autism Awareness Activities

Autism awareness promotes inclusion and self-determination for all and aspires to provide each autistic person the opportunity to achieve the highest possible quality of life. This year Autism Awareness campaigns are aiming to inspire a movement towards acceptance and inclusion where communities are encouraged to recognize and value the unique talents and gifts that autistic people have to offer.

At Preston Primary School we intend to play our part in achieving these goals by raising awareness and understanding of Autism through the following activities:

Information Sessions for Families and the Wider Community:

  • Wednesday 28th March, 4:30 – 6pm   Nest parent, family and friends invited to attend an Understanding Autism session.
  • Thursday 19th April, 5 – 6:30pm Whole school parent, family and friends invited to attend an Understanding Autism session.
  • Thursday 26th April from 3:30 Staff and families invited to a crafting weighted lap mat workshop. 
  • Wednesday 2nd May, 4– 5:30pm Nest parent, family and friends invited to attend an Understanding Behaviour and Reducing Anxiety session.

Information Sessions for Staff:

  • Monday 26th March, 3:30 – 5pm Coast Staff Understanding Autism Session.
  • Monday 30th April, 3:30 – 5pm Coast Staff Understanding Behaviour and Reducing Anxiety session.

In addition to these sessions, classes will be invited to explore their understanding of difference by reflecting upon the following prompts:
