Foundation Stage Weekly Newsletter
Puffins and Penguins Weekly Newsletter, 13th December 2019
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a very busy week. It is definitely looking a lot like Christmas! The children have been rehearsing for the nativity, they performed to their first audience this week. Preston Community Preschool and the school children from years 1-4 came to watch the dress rehearsal. Puffins and Penguins demonstrated great independence and responsibility when performing and received some wonderful compliments. They are very excited to perform to you on Tuesday next week. It was a real treat to watch the Key Stage One nativity ‘Born in a Barn’. The children thoroughly enjoyed watching a fun and energetic performance. Well done Key Stage One.
On Thursday, some of the Puffins and Penguins went to sing their nativity songs to the residents of Cornerways retirement home. They sang beautifully and the residents were delighted. It was a magical moment and the children enjoyed spreading the Christmas cheer. The walk to and from the residential home was also an important part of the learning experience. They were using lots of language, talking about the things they saw, and they demonstrated great knowledge of the need to be safe near roads. It is important for children to make links with the community in which they live, we hope to do much more of this in the future.
In Maths this week, we have been talking about more and less and what this means. We have been using objects to find one more or one less from a group. At home you could use the language more, less, fewer and ask questions ‘Who has more carrots on their plate?’ and sing the popular songs 5 little speckled frogs, 5 little ducks, and 10 fat sausages, talking about there being less and less.
Have a wonderful weekend and a marvellous Christmas.
