Welcome Back

We are looking forward to welcoming all our pupils back to school on Monday 8th March. This is a moment all the school staff have been looking forward to. The last few weeks have been challenging for us all. We now enter a season of Hope. Spring and Easter are about fresh new beginnings, and we are full of ideas of how to deliver an exciting curriculum for all our pupils.

BREAKFAST AND AFTERSCHOOL CLUBS

Breakfast Club and After School Club will be open from Monday 8th March. This wrap around childcare will operate within Government guidance . Booking details remain the same, and booking is now open at https://eduspot.co.uk/ We need bookings completed for your child to join these sessions.

SCHOOL DINNERS

School Lunches will also restart, as before. The booking system is now up and running at https://select.aspens-services.com/. Reminder - this needs to be done before 9am each day. The menu choices will be added by Aspens over the next few days.

UNIFORM

To help your child transition back into school we would ask that they return to school wearing their uniform. If they have grown out of uniform, then feel assured that we will understand. No child will be made to feel guilty because they don’t have perfect uniform. We will be understanding. However, getting their uniform on is an important part of them getting used to school again. Please visit Riviera School days at https://www.rivieraschooldays.co.uk/ if new items are required.

On the return to school we will be taking every opportunity to use our Woodland Camp Area, so please feel free to send your child in with a pair of named wellies in a bag that can remain at school during the week, for use on these occasions.

PE

PE Kit:

  • Plain white t-shirt/polo shirt
  • Navy blue shorts or skirt
  • Plimsolls/Trainers
  • A PE bag

Please send your child into school in PE kit one day a week (see below). This will mean we will not have to use changing rooms, which will help to protect the “Bubbles”. It will also mean that we will have more time for more sport. If you walk to school then on colder mornings you may want to wear navy blue or black tracksuit bottoms over your shorts

Puffins and Penguins, this does not apply to you. Please bring in your PE kit in a bag, as this is an important part of your personal development and supports our school value of Independence.

NEWSLETTERS

Each Unit will send out a newsletter before March 8th. These newsletters will help you to engage with your child in this term's curriculum.

START AND FINISH TIMES

We will have a staggered start and finish to the school day, so we can try to avoid large groups on the school drive. Please support us by not gathering on the drive or near the school gate, and only one parent per family. No parents will be allowed inside school, and communication with the school office will continue to be via telephone and email admin@preston.torbay.sch.uk

Unit 1 - Foundation Stage – Start 9am, Finish 3pm

Unit 2 – Year 1 and 2 – Start 8:50pm, Finish 3:15pm

Unit 4 – Year 5 and 6 – Start 8:40am, Finish 3pm

NEST and PASTORAL SUPPORT

The Nest children will be returning back to the provision full time from week commencing 8th March. If there are any concerns or SEND related adaptations needed regarding returning to school for any pupil, then please make contact with the  pastoral team via the main school phone  01803 607075 or email pastoral@preston.torbay.sch.uk

SCHOOL CROSSING PATROL

I am pleased to confirm that the School Crossing Patrol will return on Monday 8th March. Reminders from the school crossing team…

  • There are social distance markers at the patrol site. Please respect this boundary and do not enter this area.
  • When approaching the patrol site and crossing the road, please ensure that a 2m distance is kept between you, any children in your care and the patrol.
  • Please ensure children stay with adults and do not ’run on’ to the patrol site. They should be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Be aware Patrols may be operating from a different side of the road than you are used to.

KEEPING US ALL SAFE

We are reviewing our Risk Assessment and we will continue to implement all our control measures. These include regular hand sanitising/washing, increased ventilation, staggered breaks and lunches, increased cleaning and the use of segregated ‘bubbles’ to limit infection.

I understand that it is tempting for some to regard schools reopening as the end of ‘lockdown’. However, it is really important that we do not take this approach. If young people and their families extend contacts outside of school, this will lead to increased rates of Covid coming into school, which jeopardises schools staying open. It is vital that we are all patient, and continue to stay at home except for the permitted reasons, even once children are back in school. This is our best chance of keeping rates moving downwards, and ending lockdown once and for all.

I look forward to welcoming you all back to school and see you on the drive on Monday 8th March.
