Reading for Pleasure

Reading Ambassadors

As part of our continuing journey to promote a love of reading, we have appointed Reading Ambassadors from across the school. The role of a Reading Ambassador is to share their voice, and that of others, about how we can develop a whole school love of reading. The children will collaborate in different reading projects and share a whole school vision on the importance and joy of books.

One of the many projects is the redevelopment of our school library. Thank you to FOPPS (Friends of Preston Primary School) for the very generous donation of £5000 to spend on new books for our library. We hope to purchase a variety of books including: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and graphic novels. It is very important that the whole school is involved in restocking the library, and we have plans to include everyone in different ways. We are encouraging the children to take responsibility for the project, so they will respect the books and share recommendations with one another.

On a recent trip to a book store, the Reading Ambassadors were able to purchase the first new books for our library. After speaking to classmates about the types of books they would like to have available in the library, they scanned the shelves, researched the books, and asked the staff for recommendations. The Reading Ambassadors took great delight in filling their shopping trolley with new books that will be shared with their friends next week.

We are continuing to collate a wish list of books for our library. Please use this link to add your child’s recommendations. https://forms.office.com/e/t279GPkp8Q

Thank you for your continued support to help build a wonderful reading community. You will be able to find out more information about how we are developing reading for pleasure in the next issue of the whole school reading newsletter ‘Reading Matters’. Out in December.
