Foundation Stage Weekly Newsletter

Puffins and Penguins Weekly Newsletter 23rd November 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we have been talking and asking questions about Space, particularly the moon and our Solar System. We received a very special email from Baby Bear who has landed safely on the moon. It was very exciting to know that he has travelled all that way!

In maths, we have been solving problems linked to the number 8. For example; sharing out 8 treats to animals in the zoo and how we can do it fairly and unfairly. This is how we could see the way 8 can be partitioned in different ways. Next week, we will be moving on to the number 9 as well as being able to recognise images of numbers from 1-10 immediately.

In Read, Write, Inc we are continuing to work on our digraphs (two letters that make one sound), using these in spellings on our magnetic whiteboards and blending the sounds together to say and read the words.

The children have now been told which part they will be playing in our Nativity play, we had our first rehearsal in the hall today!

Home Learning – We would love it if you could take some photos of the number digits between 0 and 20 out in the environment. We will use these to create a classroom display for the children. Be as creative as you like, for example, a house number, a number on a car registration. Please can any photos be emailed to

Next week we have lots of exciting things happening! On Monday morning we are being visited by our local school crossing patrol officer (Rod the lollipop man) who will tell us all about his job and road safety.

On Tuesday (Puffins) and Wednesday (Penguins) we will be walking to the local Post Office to post our very own Nativity invites! We will find out all about how our postal system works.

The children will be performing their Nativity to you on Tuesday 18th December. There will be a morning and an afternoon performance. We will soon be sending out timings and ticketing information.

Many thanks, Mrs Yeo, Mrs Bastin and Mrs Clague
