A Visit from Local Author, Luke Marchant
KS2 Author Visit

This week, our Key Stage 2 children were delighted to welcome local author, Luke Marchant, who came to share his exciting new book, Arthur and the Wild Griffin. This links to our 30 Ways to Connect number 15: Listening to a visiting speaker.
Luke spoke to the children about the importance of creativity, perseverance, and believing that everyone has the potential to be an author. He shared his own journey to becoming a published writer, explaining how he submitted his first book to publishers several times before it was finally accepted. His story was a wonderful reminder to the children of the importance of never giving up on their dreams!
We also explored the idea that a book is simply words on a page until it is shared with others – that is when the words come to life and take readers on an adventure! Luke introduced the children to the magical world of his new book, which is set around a fantasy zoo filled with mythical creatures.
Luke is also collaborating with Paignton Zoo on an exciting sculpture exhibition, where our very own school sculpture, Shelby the Rhinagon, will be on display. We are thrilled that our school will be part of this creative project.
A huge thank you to Luke for visiting us, inspiring our young writers, and sharing the magic behind his books. We hope his visit has encouraged our children to let their imaginations run wild and perhaps even write some adventures of their own!
