As part of our 30 Ways to Connect experience Number 15: ‘Listen to a Visiting Speaker’, children in Year 2 and Year 5 had the exciting opportunity to attend an assembly delivered by the Fire Service. During the assembly, the children learned about the important role of firefighters and how they can help keep themselves safe at home.
In both assemblies, children learned about smoke alarm safety and were challenged to spot their smoke alarms at home. When found, they were encouraged to work with their adults to test them to make sure they are working and have enough battery power. The children were taught about all the safe ways of charging and using electronics at home to reduce the risk of a fire. They were also encouraged to work with the people in their homes to make a fire escape route for the different rooms in the house.
In the Year 5 assembly, the Fire Service also recommended for everyone who has a mobile phone to install the What3Words app, which allows emergency services to know your exact location.
The children were highly engaged throughout and impressed our visiting speaker with their thoughtful and curious questions.
