Musical Visitor

June 25, 2025

Yesterday, the children in Unit 2 were incredibly lucky to welcome a special guest as part of their music long enquiry - Mr Atherton, a talented drummer from the Plymouth City Brass Band!

Mr Atherton brought along an exciting array of percussion instruments, giving the children a hands-on opportunity to explore the world of rhythm and sound. They were absolutely captivated as they listened to the different tones each instrument produced - depending on how it was played, or which drumstick was used.

To make the experience even more enriching, Mr Atherton shared performance videos of the Plymouth City Brass Band, offering a glimpse into the life of a real Musician. He also spoke passionately about a range of inspiring musicians, including Evelyn Glennie, who the children have been learning about in their music lessons this week.

Importantly, Mr Atherton also spoke about how music is not only a skill to be learned, but a source of joy and pleasure - something that brings people together and enriches our lives in meaningful ways.

This visit was a perfect example of our school aim - Love to Learn - as the children were fully engaged, inspired, and excited to deepen their understanding of music through real-life experience.

A huge thank you to Mr Atherton for taking the time to visit and inspire our young musicians!
