Parliament Assembly
Democracy

Yesterday, children in KS2, Unit 3 and 4, had a visit from an Education Officer from Parliament. The children took part in an engaging assembly about Parliament and how we can all get involved in democracy. They learnt about the important work that happens in Parliament, including how laws are made and who represents us as local MPs. The children discovered that there are two Houses of Parliament – the House of Commons and the House of Lords – and found out that families can even visit the Houses of Parliament if they are ever in London.
During the assembly, the children discussed the qualities needed to be a good MP, linking this to our ongoing work on oracy, including the importance of speaking clearly, listening to others, and sharing ideas respectfully. At the end of the session, pupils had the opportunity to ask questions about Parliament and the role it plays in our country. This assembly supported our focus on the British Values of Rule of Law and Democracy, helping children to understand how everyone can have a voice in how our country is run.
