RNLI Assembly

Water Safety

May 2, 2025

Today, Unit 4 had two local lifeguards from the RNLI talk to the children about water safety at beaches ready for the summer. The lifeguards shared information about the different flags and the importance of following them to keep us safe in the water. The visitors also talked about what RNLI lifeguards wear at the beach to make them easy to spot, and to keep them safe in the sun and water. The lifeguards shared the importance of floating in a starfish shape with one fist in the air when in danger in the sea to save energy whilst help is arranged.  The children now know if they see someone in trouble in the water, to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard, and do not go in the sea to try and help them.

The assembly linked superbly to our School Value of Responsibility as children need to make sure they are being responsible for their actions and staying safe in the water. It also linked to our School Aims of ‘Love to Learn’ and 'Be Good Citizens’ ensuring we know how to look after ourselves and others at the beach. Being a coastal school, we understand the importance of every child learning to swim and being water safe.
