V.E. Day Celebrations

Be a Good Citizen

May 9, 2025

Yesterday marked 80 years since Victory in Europe Day and children across the school have been learning about key events from World War Two and how people celebrated VE Day, in honour of the 80th anniversary. The children have been incredibly respectful of this special day and showed interest in learning about the experiences of veterans and people on the home front. Some children listened to the song ‘ We will meet again’ and thought carefully about why this song was so popular at the time, others wrote letters asking thoughtful questions to veterans, and other children watched primary source videos showing the celebrations being held in London on 8th May 1945. Marking special anniversaries like this is important to us as a school because it helps to develop children’s sense of belonging in Britain, the British Values we hold dear, and what it means to Be Good Citizens.
