Unit 1
In Unit 1, our Puffins and Penguins classes offer a nurturing and safe environment where children can build positive relationships with their peers and teachers. Transition into school is supportive and personalised. Our Foundation classes provide a calm environment that is rich and enabling for all children to begin their school journey.

When children join Preston Primary School in Foundation Stage, they are structured into two separate classes, Puffins and Penguins. Although there are two classes, they work as a shared team meaning that staff work across the classes getting to know all 45 pupils. Children can at times independently access either classroom via open inter-connecting doors and outside areas. This allows for a shared vision of inspirational learning, greater interaction between the children, and increased opportunities for shared resources and experiences.
For more information on the school structure please visit School Day & School Organisation.
What are we learning?
Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum empowers and inspires children to be curious, empathetic, determined and unique individuals through building their personal character. Our EYFS Curriculum is carefully sequenced, flexible, engaging and sets the foundations for future learning.
Each half term there is a learning enquiry focus with key knowledge for the children to develop. Please refer to the attached document – EYFS Learning Enquiry Curriculum for more information.
To learn more about what we are learning, please take a look at our Unit Newsletter. Here you will find out about our Learning Experience, Home Learning activities, School Values, and the exciting learning and play happening at school. Packed with wonderful photos, the newsletter is a fantastic way to spark conversations with your child about their school day and celebrate their experiences together.

Home Learning
Seesaw
Seesaw is the online learning platform we use to share achievements and home learning activities. Examples include; listening to a story for pleasure, demonstrating a school value, completing a maths or phonic activity. Home learning tasks are also detailed in the Unit newsletter.
Access to Seesaw is provided via a personalised password in the July before a child starts school. This is part of the transition offer at Preston.
