Independence
Independence

January 6, 2026
This half term, the School Value we are explicitly teaching is Independence. We teach children how to work independently by overcoming obstacles through perseverance and resilience. In school, we build resilience by celebrating mistakes, as making mistakes is how we learn.
In our assemblies, we will be linking Independence to the British Value of Individual Liberty. The Department for Education introduced the five British Values in 2014 to help schools prepare young people for life in modern Britain. We will teach children how Independence nurtures the ability to make informed choices, how people have the freedom to decide their path in life, and how independence encourages pupils to take ownership of their actions.
