Traditional Stories

We are very lucky to have a wonderful woodland area and we use it regularly to support our learning. This week, the children found a variety of story props and characters in the woods. They were looking for clues to link the props to stories. The woods were filled with rich language, excitement and wonder. The children were retelling the stories, identifying missing characters and sharing their favourite parts of the stories. This is one of the many activities we are doing to help children confidently talk about which stories are their favourite and why.

PE

This week in PE we played games to promote our listening and attention skills. We played the traffic light and numicon game. The children had fun finding lots of different ways to move around the playground.

World Down Syndrome Day

In school today we have been raising awareness for World Down Syndrome Day which is on Sunday 21st March. We all wore colourful odd socks because some say chromosomes are shaped like socks. We encourage people to wear their favourite odd socks to symbolise that we are all different and that children should be themselves, accepting of one another, and celebrate difference. Here is a link to the video we have made to raise awareness of World Down Syndrome Day. Well done to all the staff and children who have produced such a wonderful video https://youtu.be/c9tqHZzAwLs

Children with Down Syndrome have an extra chromosome 21. In PE today, we enjoyed 21 Go Noodle dances to raise awareness.

Eliana and her sister Amaris are going to be dancing to 21 songs, and their mum will be doing 21,000 steps to raise awareness and funding for the local support group, Living Down South. If you would like to donate, please use the following link. Thank you for your support.  https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/lds21for21

First Lego League Discover - Playmakers

This week was the exciting launch of our new innovative Lego programme – Playmakers. The children were very excited.

They worked together to create using the new Duplo. They used the vocabulary spin, twist, roll and swing to move their bodies, and then tried to make something using the Duplo to represent those words.

Next week, we will be assigning a video on Seesaw to explain about the programme and how you can continue the learning at home.

The Lego programme is a wonderful opportunity to talk to your child about their experience and what they hope to do next.

Home Learning

We have assigned activities on Seesaw for the children to do at home. This week there is a 3D shape scavenger hunt and a traditional story activity. We will be sharing the home learning in class as the children love to talk about what they have done at home. Miss Lovell-Healy has recorded a wonderful story for you to enjoy: Room on a Broom by Julia Donaldson.

Your child will bring home Read Write Inc books every Friday. Please ensure they are reading these throughout the week, and that they are returned the following Friday. Their Read Write Inc teacher may also assign extra tasks, but this will be detailed in their red book or on Seesaw.
