To Infinity and Beyond!!

Sparrows, Swifts and Starlings Stargazing Evening

As part of Starlings, Swifts and Sparrows classes space themed Learning Experience ‘To infinity and beyond’, the pupils in Years 3 and 4 were invited to stay afterschool on Wednesday 9th November 2016 to attend a ‘Stargazing’ event.

As well as learning about the life cycle of stars by watching an episode of Professor Brian Cox’s Wonders of the Universe, the children were given the opportunity to use a range of telescopes to gaze at the moon and the stars.

In addition, in groups the children used a star tracking app to help them identify where the planets were and how to look for star constellations. Fortunately, the clouds parted and the earlier rain had long stopped, allowing us all to see more and more stars appearing as the evening became darker.

Our children were most excited to hear about a star that may supernova at any time now! It is called ‘Beetlejuice’!  We hope that all of the children were inspired to learn more about stars, our solar system, our galaxy and the entire Universe!
