School Council

Democracy is an important British value that we want all the children at Preston to know about, which is why our School Council is so important, to allow our children to voice their opinions. This half term, every class in KS1 and KS2 held hustings to vote for their class school council representative for the year. The children who wanted to be put forward wrote a speech to share with their peers. Well done to all the children who shared their speeches. Each child voted, and one representative was chosen from each class. Here are our representatives for this year:

Kestrels- Poppy

Eagles- Eryk

Hawks- Mya

Sparrows- Katie

Starlings- Ruby

Swifts- Trixie

Snowy Owls- Primrose

Tawny Owls- Kia

Little Owls- Elliot

Buzzards- Angel

Woodpeckers and Barn Owls- Marshall

Last year, the School Council representativess conducted surveys across school to gather children’s views on school life; they focused on lunchtime playground activities and were able to share their findings to change the types of activities that were happening at lunchtimes. This year, school council representatives will be focusing on improving communication skills across the school (oracy). The children will consider questions such as... 'How can I get better at communicating my ideas?' and 'How can I get better at talking within a group?'

The school council representatives will be responsible for gathering children’s views on this subject and then sharing this information with their class. We look forward to seeing the changes the School Council make this year.
