Foundation Stage Newsletter

Puffins and Penguins Newsletter, 21st July 2022

Dear parents,

We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to you for all your support this year.

We have such great memories of the year with your children, and we feel honoured to have played a part in their school journey. We have created a celebration video to share all of the wonderful learning experiences in Foundation this year. Click on this link to view it   https://youtu.be/1UA_pRUZEzs

We hope you and your family have a wonderful summer break.

With our very best wishes,

Mrs Bastin, Mrs Clague, and all of the Foundation Stage staff.

Transition to Year 1

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the children spent time with their new class and their new teacher. We feel that this enhanced transition has made the children feel more secure and excited about the move to Year 1 as well as allaying any anxieties some of the children had. The children have been coming back to us at the end of each day excited to tell us about the activities they have taken part in. They have also made new friendships with the Year 2 children who will be in the classroom with them. It is an exciting time, and we have given the children many opportunities to talk about their feelings about the coming changes. This transition will make the first few days of September run smoothly as children will have already experienced their new class and met their new teacher.

Beach trips

As a reward for all their hard work and achievements, last week, Puffins and Penguins classes visited Preston beach. (Please see newsletter on the website to view some photographs.) The children had lots of fun playing with their friends, building sandcastles, digging moats, and creating sand sculptures. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of their year in Foundation.

Popcorn!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our sessions in the Woodland camp this year. We have developed confidence, social skills, communication, and physical skills. Our knowledge and understanding about the seasons, minibeasts, and life cycles has increased. We have used real tools, including a hammer and a hand drill. We have supported risk-taking through climbing trees, building dens, and hanging from the tyre swing. We have explored and played!

For our final visit of the year, we lit a campfire and made popcorn. We found it very funny when the pan lid was lifted off, but the corn kept popping! They also toasted marshmallows. The children certainly enjoyed eating their delicious fireside snacks.
