Phonic Information Session
The teachers in Foundation held a parents and carers early reading and phonic information session. They shared how, at Preston, we promote a love of reading and inspire all children right from the start. Parents and carers were treated to a live demonstration of a Read Write Inc phonic speed sound lesson. Teachers also shared how the teaching of reading can be supported at home. Here are some of the key points:
- The importance of using pure sounds and not putting uh at the end of the sound. Not using the letter names. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/reading-owl/find-a-book/read-write-inc-phonics--1/phonics-pure-sounds-video
- Promoting the correct letter formation, using the Read Write Inc phrases. Each child has a Set 1 sounds handwriting booklet to use at home.
- Engage in the phonic activities on Seesaw.
- Play I spy games using the letter sounds not names.
- Keeping children active to promote gross and fine motor skills.
