Home Learning and Supporting the Curriculum at home

We have attached a selection of Knowledge Organisers, for you to use to support your child’s learning at home. They set out clearly what we expect children to learn and remember in that subject. Please use them at home to reinforce and help embed your child’s learning.

Our home learning project will be set on Teams, please see your child’s home-school link books for the logins.  They also have access to lots of apps to help their learning at home. These are also on their password sheet.

Library—the children will choose a library book to share at home each Monday, please return the book each Monday.

School Value

This half term, we are learning about creativity. Children will be thinking outside the box to solve problems creatively across all areas of the curriculum.

British Value

This half term, in our Class Assemblies and PSHE lessons, we are learning about the British Value of Tolerance, by understanding about different cultures and accepting opinions of others.

Our Curriculum

Long Enquiries

A long enquiry typically lasts five weeks and allows us to teach a subject, such as history, in depth. Clear expectations of what will be learned, is shared with parents and pupils through a Knowledge Organiser.  At the end of the work, we plan to use Enquiry Quizzes on our iPads to see how much each child has remembered.

Short Enquiries

A short enquiry can last anything from 1 – 3 days and adds breadth to our curriculum.

Our Learning Enquiry this term is History, learning all about local explorer Percy Fawcett. The Knowledge Organiser for this is attached. Please use it to reinforce and repeat the learning at home. We will be learning when he lived, and what he is famous for. This ties in with our history–based trip to Torquay Museum, where we will learn more.

Maths

This half term in Maths, Year 2 will be learning all about fractions, including recognising halves, quarters and thirds of objects, and calculating these fractions of numbers. Year 1 will be learning more about addition and subtraction of single digit numbers. They will then look at doubling and halving of single digit numbers. The children will then move on to numbers to 20, their place value, doubling, halving, and addition and subtraction facts.

Literacy

We are starting off the half term by exploring a non-fiction recount text called ‘My Day at the Zoo’ — this links to our Long Enquiry this half term, and will enable children to retell our day at the museum.  Later this half term, we will also be writing a narrative based on the book ’Augustus and his Smile’.  You can hear this story on YouTube: Augustus and his smile--kids bedtime | audio book | cartoon|- with english subtitles - YouTube
