Foundation Stage Spring 2 Newsletter
'Traditional nursery rhymes and stories.'
Learning Experience
Our learning for the coming weeks will focus on traditional nursery rhymes and stories. Some of the stories we will use include; ‘The Gingerbread Man’, ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We will sing nursery rhymes, some of which may be new to some children. The children will enjoy drama, role play and creating pictures and maps to help retell the stories. The children will be introduced to a range of vocabulary, ranging from simple everyday words to complex/unfamiliar vocabulary. At the end of term, we will post some of the children’s work on Seesaw for you to see.
Maths
In Maths the children will be exploring 3D shapes and will be comparing numbers within 10. They will continue to subitise and explore patterns.
The children will use a wide variety of manipulatives to aid their learning and will continue to work on communication skills through working with a partner.
School Value:
Instilling the importance of Teamwork in a child will shape their cognitive, social and emotional skills which will guide them throughout their life. It all starts with communication. Take turns to hear and be heard. Empathise with others and enjoy being in a team.
Wider curriculum
Lego League Discover: We are excited to introduce our Lego programme this term. Children will be able to work in groups to explore, design, create and evaluate. They will be using skills to communicate, problem solve, take risks and pose questions. More information will be provided at a later date.
IT: The children have impressed us with their IT skills for online learning. We will be taking full advantage of this experience and finding ways for them to apply their knowledge in the classroom.
Woodland Camp: We will be visiting the woods twice a week to explore, create and build. There will be a wide range of opportunities available for the children. Please ensure they always have their wellies and mud suit in school.
PE: We will continue to have two PE sessions a week as this is important for fitness and their mental health. Your child’s PE kit needs to stay in school in a PE bag on their peg.
Reading at Home:
Every Monday your child will bring home a self-chosen book from the school library. Please share this book with your child and enjoy time spent reading together. Your child is not expected to read this book independently.
On a Friday, some children may start bringing home books to read from their Read Write Inc group. Please encourage your child to read these aloud to you as often as is possible. These books are linked to sounds they have learnt and they should read these independently. This will help your child to develop fluency and expression, which will enable them to become confident readers.
Pastoral Care
We are looking forward to welcoming all the children back to school. We are aware that the children have experienced lots of changes recently. We will be working hard to support them emotionally during school reopening. Teaching staff will be visible at the beginning and end of the day if you would like to share any observations or queries with them. We will be planning lots of collaborative and exciting opportunities for children to help ease them back into the routines and expectations of school life. If you have any further questions or worries, please contact our pastoral team: pastoral@preston.torbay.sch.uk
Messages
Allergies: We have a number of children with nut and kiwi allergies so please ensure these products are not brought into school.
Absence: Should your child be absent due to illness please call the absence line on 01803 607589 and leave a message with your child’s name, class and reason for absence. Alternatively, you can text this information to 07786208446. If your child has sickness and/or diarrhoea, they will need to be absent for 48 hours after the last episode of illness. For planned absences of any nature, you will need to complete an absence request form - these are available on the school website.
Times of the school day: The school day begins for us at 9:00am and finishes at 3:00pm.
Please remember to socially distance while on school premises and when leaving the site. Please wear a mask when on the school site. If you have messages for the office, please email them on admin@preston.torbay.sch.uk.

Home Learning and Communication
We will continue to use Seesaw for home learning. Activities and notices will be posted on a Friday afternoon. Please continue to use Seesaw to share any photos and videos of your child learning at home. We really value your support and it is important that we work together to provide the best possible experiences for your child.
