This half term, we are learning about Respect, and how respect for others helps build the warm, welcoming, and calm atmosphere in our school.
This half term, in our Class Assemblies, we are learning about the British Value of Democracy by electing our School Council, to help our school become a better place.
Children in Key Stage 1 and 2 will enjoy a long and short enquiry each half term.
A long enquiry typically lasts five weeks and allows us to teach a subject, such as history, in depth. Clear expectations of what will be learned is shared with parents and pupils through a Knowledge Organiser. At the end of the work, we plan to use Enquiry Quizzes on our iPads to see how much each child has remembered.
A short enquiry can last anything from 1 to 3 days and adds breadth to our curriculum.
Our first Learning Enquiry this term is Geography – natural disasters, the Knowledge Organiser for this is attached. Please use it to reinforce and repeat the learning at home.
Please note that the Knowledge Organisers have been sent by email, and are also available on the Newsletters webpage.
This half term in Maths, Year 5 are exploring decimal fractions. The Year 6 children are going to be exploring calculating addition and subtraction using their knowledge of structure. All the children are going to be using concrete resources, visual images and representations to support them with their learning.
We are starting off the half term by exploring poetry through our text, ‘The Lost Words’. We are going to be writing our own poems all about nature and animals that we can see in our woodland area. In the second half of the half term, we are going to be exploring non-chronological reports through our text ‘Volcanoes’.
